About Rosie Stanton is some-sort-of artist. She is well trained with a Bachelor of Arts n’ Farts from the VCA class of 2021 and well practiced with a slow and steady studio practice of almost pre-teen age maturity.
She will flip flop (by frustration or for fun) between material visual and the spoken written. With loose allegiance to final form, she nurtures ideas through permutations of possible and impossible expressions.

Rosie’s guiding ghosts are elusive though persistently present: whimsy and resonance, sentimentality and spirit sensitivity, playful absurdity, and mysterious familiarity.

Rosie loves to host workshops, exhibit paintings, perform poetry, write creative essays, and sit a market stall.
But.
Honestly and truly, Rosie’s passion is for serious play and she will fiercely protect her and your God-given privilege to chase the tail of your own curiosity and imagine a happier day.

Do my feet still touch the ground?

Where do we stand now? What is this feeling of floating, of not being able to get our feet on the ground?

The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the shift from material- based communication to invisible virtual communication. To reground ourselves, we have engaged in a dialogue over 9 months through

a range of artistic, discursive and technological methods that has sought to destabilise and question the dichotomy between the virtual and the real.

This exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the Tokyo University of the Arts (TUA) and the Department of Printmaking at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), the University of Melbourne.

The collaboration focuses on the productive space of translation and mistranslation in a shared production process over great distance, questioning the set up of globalised manufacturing.

A process-oriented partnership between Geidai and VCA has evolved over the years and become a platform that enables cross-cultural discourse embedded in explorations of conceptual constructs.

The exhibition will be presented at two sites in Tokyo and Melbourne as a presentation of the results of the project by nine students who conducted their collaborations online.

Tokyo Install

Melbourne Install

Rosie Stanton X SHU Yan

This installation shows the stages of existence of an object as it passes through processes
of digitalisation and re-materialisation. It is
a collaboration of reality, as Rosie imagines the objects in their original state and Shu re-imagines the objects based on written descriptions by Rosie. Each iteration of the object loses and gains information through translation and transcription. Each time, changing its mass, shape, purpose, and meaning. Although they begun with only an idea of a real object, each iteration is in itself, real.
